2018: A Year in Review

December 31, 2018 By Jessie Benson 18 Comments

At the end of every year, I usually recap the year in running on the blog. Usually those recaps include multiple marathons. For example, in 2016, I ran FIVE full marathons in one year. But this year?  Zero marathons. Running in 2018 was defined by one thing- a broken leg*. *And a cancelled trip to Antarctica. I'll go ahead and recap each month... January 2018: I was excitedly Continue Reading

Weekly Recap: 24 Weeks Until the Houston Marathon

August 5, 2018 By Jessie Benson 18 Comments

Hello, hello! It's Sunday, which means I'm here with my weekly recap of training for the Chevron Houston Marathon! This marathon will be my 30th marathon- woo-hoo! It is 24 weeks away- January 20! Plenty of time to get into marathon shape, which is good, as I am building back after 5 months off of running due to a broken tibia/fibula from slipping on the ice in February. Read more here. If Continue Reading

Weekly Recap: 11 Weeks Post-Broken Leg

May 6, 2018 By Jessie Benson 23 Comments

Hello there and welcome to my blog! If you're new to The Right Fits, let me catch you up on my current situation. This post, this post, and this post are a great place to start. Basically, I was an avid marathoner, running 3-4 marathons a year, and was well into training for the Antarctica Marathon when I broke my tibia and fibula on a wintry Minneapolis run. My trip was cancelled, I had Continue Reading

Weekly Recap: Six Weeks Post-Broken Leg

April 1, 2018 By Jessie Benson 32 Comments

Can you tell which leg is broken? It's looking so much better! Still swollen of course, but better. Before I delve into my regular weekly recap, I want to ask you to check out this post from earlier in the week. 10 Things I've Learned So Far From a Broken Leg I think you'll really enjoy it and it does a great job of explaining where I am right now. And if you've been injured before, hopefully Continue Reading

Week 3 of the Broken Leg

March 11, 2018 By Jessie Benson 21 Comments

I made it through another week of recovery. If you're just catching up, I broke my leg three weeks ago running; I slipped on the ice while doing my long run on February 17th. Two weeks ago I had surgery to put it all back together (like Humpty Dumpty). It's only been 3 weeks but it feels like an eternity. This upheaval in my plans happened three weeks ago and three weeks before I was Continue Reading

Weekly Recap: Scooting Right Along…

March 4, 2018 By Jessie Benson 43 Comments

Who's ready for another broken leg self-pity post? You are? Good! You came to the right place. I'll write this as a weekly recap, just as I used to....you know, back when I was training for a marathon in Antarctica. :( Monday: I worked from home on Monday because I needed to keep my leg elevated above my heart for at least 4 days after surgery. (Did you miss my post about my surgery? Continue Reading

This is my blog about finding The Right "Fit." I'm an avid runner, marathon enthusiast, and fitness experimentalist who uses my little space of the internet to share my passion for and experiences with running and fitness (...and a little about fashion.)

I write mostly about running and my quest to run a marathon in every state and every continent. But you'll also find some information about different fitness classes in the Twin Cities and more.

It was my “PW” time in quite a while (except the wine marathon in Médoc but that doesn’t really count 😆) but after taking several weeks off at an important time of the training block due to a tendon injury (and battling a cold on race day 🤧) I am still proud of myself and happy to have completed another marathon. Thanks to @donalmorancoaching for coaching me through the injury (I’m the first to admit I’m terrible when injured 😑- he’s very patient and thoughtful with his guidance)
