Weekly Recap: Recovering From Big Cottonwood

September 17, 2016 By Jessie Benson 15 Comments

It's been a week since the Big Cottonwood Marathon. If you missed my recap, you can catch up here! It was a tough marathon, but fortunately I qualified for Boston! I'll register tomorrow (9/19) and will hopefully receive confirmation that I'm in sometime later this week Fingers crossed that 4 minutes and 27 seconds is enough. I always take a full week off of running and this marathon was no Continue Reading

Fit Do Race Reviews: The Big Cottonwood Marathon

September 13, 2016 By Jessie Benson 53 Comments

Marathon #24- complete! On Saturday, September 10th, I crossed my 24th marathon finish line at the Big Cottonwood Marathon.  I ran this race as my last chance BQ (Boston Qualifier). I had a qualifying time from the Phoenix Marathon this past February, but 3:39:26 (or 34 seconds under the qualifying time) would not historically be enough for me to actually get into the race. Since Dustin Continue Reading

Weekly Recap: Tapering..and a Marathon!

September 10, 2016 By Jessie Benson 6 Comments

I often forget to recap the week of my marathon because I'm too caught up in the actual marathon. But reading how the last week went is just as helpful as the rest of the training recaps, right? Here's my weekly recap of THE WEEK of the Big Cottonwood Marathon. Monday: Labor Day. 1 mile warm-up, 3x1 mile at goal marathon pace (8:12) with 2 minute recovery in between each mile, 1 mile cool Continue Reading

September 4, 2016 By Jessie Benson 8 Comments

Happy Labor day weekend! I hope you have been able to relax and enjoy this last long weekend of summer. Did you run a race? Go on a weekend getaway? Please share! I stayed close to home the whole weekend. Between traveling for my grandma's funeral, Napa, and then a wedding last weekend, we've been gone a lot. I was really looking forward to being home.  With the marathon so soon, low-key time Continue Reading

Bring on the Taper for the Big Cottonwood Marathon!

August 28, 2016 By Jessie Benson 17 Comments

The Big Cottonwood marathon is two weeks away! It’s TAPER TIME! What does that mean? After several months of hard work, the taper is the weeks before a key race where you cut back your mileage and let your muscles repair. Your body recovers from all the hard work you have been putting it through during training. You focus on replenishing all your glycogen stores in preparation for race day. Continue Reading

Weekly Recap & Linking Up With the Jess’s!

August 14, 2016 By Jessie Benson 19 Comments

I love sharing my weekly recaps of training here on the blog and a lot of you do the same on your blogs! I feel like it keeps me accountable and is a helpful journal of sorts to use when reflecting on a training season. I hope that the recaps are helpful to any readers who are also training for a race and find value in other athlete's training plans, challenges, and (hopefully) successes!  I have Continue Reading

This is my blog about finding The Right "Fit." I'm an avid runner, marathon enthusiast, and fitness experimentalist who uses my little space of the internet to share my passion for and experiences with running and fitness (...and a little about fashion.)

I write mostly about running and my quest to run a marathon in every state and every continent. But you'll also find some information about different fitness classes in the Twin Cities and more.

Best reunion ever! I've been so, so worried, but t Best reunion ever! I've been so, so worried, but these girls were such troopers through a 4-day delay in Chicago when it was too hot for them to fly, to a 7-hour flight from Chicago to Amsterdam, 5 hours getting through customs, followed by a 9 hour van transport (via the eurotunnel) to London to be reunited with us. ❤️ So much happiness in my heart to be together again.

Ruth and Matilda have been dying to share some exc Ruth and Matilda have been dying to share some exciting news- we are moving to London!

- Dustin was offered a really great opportunity through the same company to take on a new role in London.
- My company approved a transfer for me to our London office- same job for me (fun new office location!)
- I’ll be localized, Dustin will be an expat.
- The move has been in the works for awhile, but UK immigration was slow with visa processing due to Covid, staffing shortages, the Ukrainian war refugee crisis, etc. but we now have our visas so things are moving quickly- tentative move date is July 7!
- Though the delay was frustrating at first, I think it was meant to be, as it allowed me to be in the US for my mom’s last days and then her funeral. 😕
- We will be renting a flat in the city of London. Visitors welcome!
- Ruth & Matilda are coming with. We wouldn’t go if they couldn’t join! Happy to share details on how they are getting there, but Dustin’s firm set up us with an amazing agency that handles it all, @worldcarepet
- Some good friends are hosting a goodbye party/open house on June 25th. Text me for details, I’d love to see you before we leave. All are invited! 🇬🇧
