Five Non-Running Things to do in the Minneapolis Area This Fall!

September 16, 2016 By Jessie Benson 10 Comments

My Friday Five Favorites are almost always running related. But with Big Cottonwood less than a week ago, I'm taking a little breather from running. How about some non-running activities for fall? October is probably my favorite month ever; I mean, it includes my birthday and our wedding anniversary. It also includes Halloween, bonfires, and fall marathons...Oh wait, back to running again! But Continue Reading

Friday Five Favorites: My Five Favorite Marathons…so far!

September 9, 2016 By Jessie Benson 13 Comments

Every marathon is special in its own way. I have fond memories of all of them, from the tiny Marathon-to-Marathon in Iowa to the world-renowned Berlin Marathon! As corny as it is, each marathon was an important part of my running journey. I could write a post about what I loved about each and every one, even the ones that were really hot or where I had a disappointing personal performance. With Continue Reading

What to Wear on Race Day!

September 7, 2016 By Jessie Benson 6 Comments

Are you training for a fall marathon? Maybe you're doing the Twin Cities Marathon (one of my favorites!)  Portland? Milwaukee? Chicago? Berlin? Richmond? Steam town? There are so many great fall marathons to choose from. Maybe you're joining me at Big Cottonwood this Saturday (if so, please comment here so we can connect in Utah!) If you are running a fall race, you might be starting to Continue Reading

Friday Five: Five Things You Need for a Successful Long Run While Traveling

September 2, 2016 By Jessie Benson 3 Comments

Two weekends ago, I was in Napa Valley with my sisters, husband, and two brother-in-laws for a 40th birthday celebration. I had to be flexible with my training schedule, so I moved my long run to Monday. Dustin and I added two days on the end of the trip to spend in San Francisco and that city seemed like a good place to run 20 miles. The run was a lot of fun; I feel like we saw just as much Continue Reading

Friday Five Favorites: Best Water Fountains in Minneapolis

August 12, 2016 By Jessie Benson 17 Comments

Hydration, hydration, hydration! Hydration is so important for runners. Often times though, it's easier said than done when on the run. Though I have a few fuel belts that I like, I still fully appreciate and utilize the public fountains found on the Minneapolis trails. Here are my five favorite water fountains! (Quick caveat: technically, I'm from Wisconsin, so I should call these Continue Reading

Friday Five Favorites: Reasons to Love the Track!

August 5, 2016 By Jessie Benson 4 Comments

Today's Friday Five Favorites is all about the TRACK. Marathon training is about endurance, but speed training is still an important component of a successful plan. Historically, I have usually done my workouts on the same trails on which I do my long runs. But more recently, I have headed to a local track for my shorter speed sessions. And guess what- I'm loving it! There are so many Continue Reading

Friday Five Favorites: Post-Long Run Brunch Spots in Minneapolis

July 22, 2016 By Jessie Benson 15 Comments

I love to go out to brunch after a long run. It's the best, right? Take a quick shower, throw on some casual clothes, and refuel! I'll be honest that I'm not always all that picky; pancakes, eggs, omelets, waffles- I love it all.  (I just don't want to have to wait for a long time as I'm usually pretty "rungry" by that time, amiright?) So even though I'm not super picky, there are still Continue Reading

I quickly went online afterwards & registered for next year’s race 🤣 even though I don’t know how it will fit into marathon plans or other travel plans 🤷‍♀️…I ran it 4 weeks after Vienna for fun and fun it definitely was! 🎉🏃‍♀️🇬🇧 I actually don’t remember the last half I ran and this one was HUGE- 24,000 runners! But it didn’t feel too congested and was well supported- so many enthusiastic spectators! #hackneyhalfmarathon #hackneyhalf @hackneymoves #halfmarathon #londonrunner #instarunner #longrun

Vienna City Marathon 2023, marathon #41! It was a Vienna City Marathon 2023, marathon #41! It was a challenging one for me, the heat/sun (though not as sunburned as Boston 2022!), tummy troubles, painful side stitches (which can be from over OR under hydrating?) . But I’m proud of myself for sticking with it for the full 42km. The support was great, pretty flat course, LOVED that they played Blue Danube Waltz at the start line 🎼

Love for the marathon still strong 🏅🇦🇹❤️ Next up, Marathon du Médoc (def just for fun) and then Dublin!

Though our “skip the line” tour to the top of the Eiffel Tower was cancelled due to the strikes, we still saw a lot on a Seine river cruise & walk the first evening, and then Versailles and Montmartre the next day. I’ve been to Paris a few times before but it was fun to experience it again with my family!
