Failed Fit- Treadmill time….

January 13, 2012 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By JessieLast Thursday, I was at work late, and ended up missing my second scheduled kettlebell class. I needed to "fit fitness" in somehow. I thought about running outside, but unfortunately our 50 degree heat wave was over. The temperature had fallen quite a bit, and as I left my office around 7 pm, the blustering wind and 6 degree temperatures quickly eliminated my fitness motivation. So, Continue Reading

January 11, 2012 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By JessieSpring in Minnesota offers up several great races, from 5k's, 10k's, 10 milers, 1/2 marathons, to anything and everything in between. Of course, runners can't do them ALL; both physically and financially, that would be quite a challenge. So here is a list of the races I have on my spring calendar. Please share your experiences with any of  these races if you have some tips!Goldy's Continue Reading

Fitting Remarks: The Need to Cross-Train

January 5, 2012 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By: LLCross-training...do you do it when you are training for a race? For many, cross-training is the easily neglected piece of their training routine. Instead, you might opt for another run or give your muscles the day off to recover from a considerably hard run the day before. Unfortunately, neither of those two options will give you nearly the significant boost that you will get from at least Continue Reading

But alas, I still needed to "fit fitness" in somehow. Fortunately, there are many different ways to do so up north while enjoying the outdoors. My fresh new fit this new year was snowshoeing. "Santa" brought Continue Reading

By JessieLast night, I decided to try something new for a "fresh fit". I met some friends at "Balance Fitness" in uptown for an hour-long Kettlebell class. Here is the gym's website: http://seek-balance.com/So, what is a kettle bell, you ask? Well, this is what it looks like:According to WedMD, "The cannonball-shaped cast iron orbs called kettlebells were originally developed by Russian Continue Reading

Favorite Fit: Christmas Morning Run

December 27, 2011 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By JessieLL recently posted about our family's "Pajama Time" tradition. My husband and I also have carried on that tradition into our adulthood, purchasing a new pair of pajamas to be opened on Christmas Eve, for a cozy night by the fire with a warm mug of Tom & Jerry. But I also have a tradition that I have been following for probably the past 8 years- a Christmas morning run.  I started Continue Reading

Fits on the Road- Hiking the Hana Highway

December 18, 2011 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

The road to Hana, or the "Hana Highway", is a 50 mile stretch of Hawaii State Route 36 and 360 which connects Pa'ia with the town of Hana on east Maui. The highway is very winding and narrow, and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one-lane. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hana, virtually all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of Continue Reading
