Hello! I’m still here, just lazy about blogging…
My last post was a recap of the Paris marathon, so its been a little while but I plan to recap my marathon training as usual and re-connect with this great community!
(I did share a very short post about our time in Reims, in case helpful to anyone planning a trip there!)
I’m now building back into training for the Dingle (Ireland) marathon on September 6th. The Dingle marathon is a small race; it goes along the south western coast of the country; its meant to be stunning. Dustin and I plan to turn it into a longer trip to drive the Ring of Kerry and explore a bit more of Ireland (flying into Kerry, flying out of Cork.)
Here’s how training went this past week!
Monday: Monday was a bank holiday, so we had the day off of work. I ran 7 solo miles then went to Pilates at Heartcore, then Dustin and I went to the Hackney rooftop sauna again (with the cold plunge tub). Full healthy day off!
Tuesday: Easy run with friends before work. Then over lunch, I had my first session with a personal trainer at a gym right by my office; my colleague went from zero pull-ups to 10 with this trainer, so I was inspired by her and signed up for some sessions. It was a 45 minute overall assessment, but it was tough and I was sore for 3 days afterwards!
That evening, I joined some friends for an interview with Caroline Darian, daughter of Gisèle Pelicot; not sure how much that court case was covered in the US (the US has its fair share of wild stores these days) but this was a very sad and tragic story. The interview was about an hour long and held at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington.
Wednesday: This was technically my rest day, but I had a physio appointment around lunch time, so I jogged there as it would take about the same time as the tube; it was 3 miles round trip. The physio appointment was really intense as apparently my body is still very tight after Paris! I need to get back to regular sports massages and maybe yoga…
Saw this cutie in St. James park by the office!

Thursday: 3×10 minutes at marathon effort; I don’t really know what marathon effort is right now, but I try to just go by feel. My friend Tina joined me for the first two sets. 7 miles total. Heartcore pilates after work.
Friday: Fun Friday miles with friends, 6.5 miles.
Saturday: Long run with the Mornington Chasers: a group of us ran to Finsbury Park to do their parkrun, then ran back for 12 miles total. Long walk with Run afterwards.
Sunday: 8 mile run with Ruth in the morning, lovely pub lunch with friends in the afternoon. A perfect London Sunday.
Summary: Just under 50 miles! (49.5, ha!) 1 pilates class, 1 PT session, (personal training- Brits called personal training PT and physical therapy physio!), a few other strength bits at home.
Other fun experiences I’ve missed blogging about here:
Dustin ran a (very challenging) 50k (technically 55k) in Snowdonia (in Wales.) He loved it!
I tagged along for support and hiked Snowdonia once (he ran it multiple times in the ultra.) Gorgeous part of the UK!
My run club had a long run to see some of the public flower displays for the Chelsea flower show. So fun!
Ruth’s 6th birthday: we ran 6 miles with her, showered at my office, and then went to a dog-friendly viewing of the Phoenician Scheme, the new Wes Anderson movie.
She’s been living her best life; we also did “Bark Jacobs” at the Marc Jacobs store, where if you buy a bag, they will paint your dog on the bag for free.
She’s been enjoying the warm weather with nice long walks on the Heath.
Oh we love her so much. She’s spoiled, I know…she is a bit more anxious since we lost Matilda and I look forward to adding a second dog at some point in the future.
That’s a wrap! I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner; check out their blogs to connect with other fitness bloggers for workout ideas and inspiration!
It’s nice to see your update! It can be hard to find time for blogging between all your running and traveling.
OMG, I love the Bark Jacobs event — and your bag, That is AMAZING!
P.S. I’ve got a quick trip to Minneapolis this week. Not sure I’ll be able to squeeze in a run from my hotel, but I’ll try and think of you.
Thank you Coco! I hope you enjoyed Minneapolis! I saw they had some bad smoke/air quality, hopefully you missed it!
Welcome back, we’ve missed you!
Snowdonia looks like quite the hike, but worth it with that view! Congrats to Dustin on running the 50K there. What was his elevation gain during the race?
Happy 6th birthday to Ruth! My how time flies!
Thank you Debbie! Gosh, I need to check the elevation but it was A LOT 🙂
Wow. Yes. Your dog has a great life. LOL.
A very active week for you with with lots of different activities.
Congrats to the hubby.
And looking forward to following your training for Dingle.
Thank you Darlene!
Happy Birthday Ruth!!! Go ahead and spoil her, she deserves it. I love all the birthday celebrations. The location for Dustin’s 50k looks incredible. INCREDIBLE!!! I have to laugh at all my complaints about the “hills” in my last race- this one looks VERY challenging. I’m intrigued by the personal training- as someone who can currently do 0 pull ups, I’ll be waiting eagerly to find out if you can eventually do them. Sounds like you’re really taking care of yourself, getting the physio assessment and all (wow, all the terms are really confusing, PT, physio…) I’m VERY excited for… Read more »
It was a cool location! Who had ever thought that existed in the UK??
I’ve missed your posts! Glad that everything is good. Your photos are beautiful as always. The Dingle Marathon sounds like another photo opportunity!
Congrats to Dustin! And Happy Birthday to your sweet pup!
Thank you Wendy!
Congrats to Dustin! It is hard to find time to blog with travel! I had no idea where Dingle was until you said. Ireland should be fun and beautiful that time of the year. That bark Jacobs bag is too cute
I hadn’t heard of Dingle either!
You’ve definitely kept busy (no surprises there). Congrats to Dustin on his ultra! I love the bag with sweet Ruth’s portrait:-)
thank you Kim!
Good to see you’re doing well and that you’re still planning to run the Dingle marathon! September is a great time to visit Ireland and I hope you’ll enjoy it here. If you’re in the Cork area and up for a coffee, let me know!
I will definitely reach out Suzanne!
Always love your updates, Jessie! And happy 6th birthday, Ruth! (I can’t believe she’s 6!) Luma and Olli send some doggo love 🙂
Thank you Erin!
First of all, that dog portrait on the purse! It’s so cute and perfect! How interesting that you went to a dog friendly movie! Were all of the dogs well behaved? Congrats to Dustin on his race. What an accomplishment! My daughter just booked flights to Dublin. She’ll be going there with her boyfriend as well as going to France. I need to start planning some more trips! 😉
I hope you get back to feeling all better with the PT and new trainer. Sounds like you are getting along pretty good though!
Yes. the dogs were all well behaved! It was adorable. Ruth just slept on my lap. I hope your daughter enjoys her trip!
Thank you for sharing! Never had heard of Snowdonia – looks pretty amazing!
I hadn’t heard of it before moving here!
Hey hey! Good to “see” you!
Happy birthday, sweet Ruth! She is beautiful and her portrait on that bag is everything. Did she love the movie?
Gisele Pelicot is one of the bravest and strongest women. How amazing that you were able to take part in that event. I have chills just thinking about it.
Congratuatlions to Dustin! What an accomplishment! And Snowdonia looks gorgeous! Love it!
Thankm you Jen! She loved the movie 🙂 if napping means she loved it, ha!
Nice pelican and well done Dustin for the ultra, that’s hard!
Thanks Liz! Cheers!
