Happy Sunday! I’m here with my weekly recap of training for the Atlanta Marathon on March 1, which is just 12 weeks away!
Training this week included a lot of treadmill time; the temperatures weren’t terrible outside, but the trails were terrible, so I opted inside for the safety of the treadmill. Dustin was also traveling for work, so I felt guilty putting Ruth (our younger vizsla puppy) in the kennel/crate to run, when she’s already in there a lot during the workday. (We do have a Rover come over to walk her and Matilda each day, but I still feel guilty.) So, the treadmill was my best option for most runs.
Monday: 6 easy miles on the treadmill before work at 9 min/mile. Discover Strength after work.
Tuesday: 7 miles on the treadmill before work, 9 min/mile pace.
Wednesday: 9 miles on the treadmill after work at 9:15 min/mile. This run was broken up quite a bit because I had to keep logging back to my computer to work on something urgent, but I got in the miles… over a long period of time 🙂 I guess that’s another benefit of the treadmill, right?
Thursday: Another treadmill run, 8 miles total with 12×45 second intervals at a 7 min/mile pace mixed in the middle.
Friday: Rest from running, but I did do a Discover Strength training session. Friday was a big day for Ruth- she got spayed! She’s doing just fine, but has to sport a cone for a few more days.
Saturday: 12 miles outside, 8:55 min/mile pace. It felt so fantastic to run outside! I met a few friends on the West River Road, where the running path was perfectly cleared of snow and ice.

These trails were in much better shape than the lake trails. I suppose its because the river road gets a lot more sun and a lot less drifting/blowing off of the lakes, but I may be doing a lot of my long runs there this winter. I can suffer through weekday runs on the treadmill if I can at least get outside on the weekend (in the daylight!)
We picked up a Christmas tree Saturday afternoon and spent some time decorating it and our house. Christmas will be here before we know it!
Sunday: 4 mile run around Bde Mka Ska (i.e. Lake Calhoun). The trails weren’t great, but at least I could see to avoid the slippery spots. 4 miles at an 8:45 min/mile pace.
Summary: 46 miles of running, 2 strength sessions.
I’m linking up as usual with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner as part of their Weekly Rundown. Check it out!
You had lots of treadmill runs this week! Looks like a solid week of training
It’s still running just on the treadmill 🙂
It’s tough to train for any kind of long distance event this time of year! You had some nice miles in spite of the conditions.
Glad to see Ruth avoided the cone of shame and got to wear that life preserver thing!
Yes, the inflatable cone was much better!
I love Ruth’s neck snuggy! So much better than the cone of shame. I’ll have to remember that if Max ever needs it. Solid week of running!
Neck snuggie 🙂 I love it!
I can’t believe only 3 months until the marathon!
I love that you are getting in so many treadmill runs during training. Better to be safe than sorry, especially with the snow and ice on the ground.
I know, March 1 will be here quickly!
You are a beast with all that treadmill time! Thankfully, I was able to get outside everyday last week…not sure if that’ll be the case this coming week. I bet that long run outside felt amazing 🙂
Yes totally great to at least get outside for the long one!
Is the marathon only 12 weeks away? Ugh, I feel like I won’t be ready for the half. Mateo was neutered today and is running around like nothing.
You’ll be fine! 12 weeks is plenty of time 🙂
Great week and it sounds like you will be so ready for Atlanta!
Have to say that I love the pics of your puppers. What sweet babies.
They are super sweet pups 🙂
Bless the ‘mill. I’m pretty much on it every weekday and keep my fingers crossed that the weather is decent enough to be outside on Saturdays. Runners do what runners gotta do.
Bless the ‘mill for sure!
I don’t mind the treadmill too much, but I don’t like doing long runs on it (plus mine is ancient & shuts down after 90 minutes anyway).
We are actually having a warm up, so a lot of the snow has melted. Although once it gets on the paths, it tends to stay there. Ugh, so few places to run in winter. 🙁
Glad you had a warm-up!
Glad you got out to do your long run on safe paths outside at least. I’m following your example in my tiny way and planning to get more weekly miles in in this next marathon campaign for me (21 weeks until … etc.). Love the dogs, and hope Ruth has recovered from her spay by now.
Thanks Liz!
