There are now TEN weeks until the Indianapolis Marathon, which will be my 33rd full marathon and 22nd state on my 50-state quest!
Here’s my recap of training (and life) this past week!
Monday: The week started out with an unplanned rest day. I had a bit of a cold (maybe just run down from 62 miles the week before and a few late nights due to the wedding festivities) so I slept in and took a complete rest day. I needed it.
Tuesday: 9 miles easy before work. When I headed out the door, I realized my Garmin was completely dead, so I quickly ran back inside and grabbed Dustin’s Garmin instead. I didn’t go through the hassle of syncing up his to my Strava and VDot02 (the site my coach uses) but rather added the run manually for the day. Discover Strength group class after work
Wednesday: Workout Wednesday! 3 mile warm-up, then 10×5 minutes at marathon pace with 1 minute recovery. Basically a 60 minute ‘fartlek.’ With 1 mile to cool-down, I ended up with 11 miles and then off to work!
Dustin and I took the afternoon off to go to the Minnesota State Fair; it was a perfect day for the fair; 70 and sunny and not crowded.

Unrelated to the fair, it was a tough day as I found out my mom was in the emergency room. It’s kind of a long story that I am not sure how much I should get into. But I’m glad she was here when this all occurred because both my sister Cresta and I are around to help (and my dad can stay with one of us). She is also getting really great care at the U hospital. She had 10 hour surgery at the University hospital yesterday (Saturday) and is now in recovery. Keep her in your thoughts.
Thursday: Another easy 9 miler before work. Visited my mom after work at the hospital.
Friday: I’m racing a Labor Day 10k, so my coach suggested that I join my friend Christie and do my long run before work on Friday. 15 miles before work was a lot, but we started very early. We had 2 hours 10 minutes total of running: 40 minutes easy, 30 minutes at 8:45, 5 minutes easy, 30 minutes at 8:30, 5 minutes easy, 20 minutes at 8:15, 5 minutes easy, 10 minutes at 8:00, 5 minutes easy, 5 minutes at 7:45, 10 minutes easy.
15 miles total. Christie had cold Gatorades for us; so delicious.

Another visit with my mom at the hospital. Full day of work.
Saturday: It was really nice to have done my long run on Friday! I slept in a bit before running 5.5 miles with Matilda (our older vizsla.) It was a nice cool morning, but Matilda was dragging a bit behind me. I’m worried that her running days might be numbered! She is 10.5 years old, so I know the time will come, but I’m hopeful she was just a little tired (probably from hanging out with Ruth!) and will be healthy enough to run with me for a few more years.
Sunday: 7.2 recovery miles with my friends Vicki and Tricia. We were done before the rain set in, which was lucky. After another visit to to the hospital, I took my niece Harriet out to lunch for her 8th birthday and then we built a fairy house at Heartfelt in Linden Hills (such a cute little place!)

Summary: 56 miles of running; less than the 62 last week (and a rest day!) Only one strength session at Discover Strength this week but better than none, right? Just doing my best to fit in what I can.
And a weekly fix of puppy cuteness.

Ruth is 3 months old!

I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner as part of their Weekly Rundown. Check it out!
Sending good vibes to your mom. Hope she is ok and glad she has you near by to help. Have a good week
Thank you very much Deborah.
Great week of workouts. The longest run I’ve ever done before work was 12 miles. It was a LONG day! I hope your mom is on the mend and feeling better soon.
Thank you Angela!
Wow, sorry to hear about your mom…hope she’s on the mend and feeling better. Great week of workouts (as usual ) 😉
I appreciate the kind words.
I’m sending thoughts of healing to your Mom, and I’m thinking about you and your family. Having a family member in the hospital is tough! Take care of one another, and be kind to yourself.
Thank you Katie. It has been tough, but I’m glad she’s here in Minneapolis.
Hope your mom is fully on the mend soon – if it has to happen it’s great like you said that there’s a support network locally.
Yay on the fair
I linked your pups’ insta account to a friend in my run group who loves dogs. So if a RescuedRockstars follows the pups, she’s not a total stranger
Congrats on a solid week. Cold drinks at the end is the best.
Yep, it’s a good thing she’s here, we have great hospitals. My sister works at the University hospital!
Oh that’s wonderful and must be a small comfort. Hope she’s continuing on the mend
It was so great to have my sister in the loop to help!
Sorry to hear about your mom. I’m sending thoughts and prayers your way. Mad props to you for banging out 15 before work. Total dedication right there! Holy cuteness look at Ruth! Love the fairy house too. What a fun activity!
Thank you Marcia.
OMG Ruth is too cute! That face!
Nice week of training, in spite of all you have going on. I hope your mom is ok! It’s so hard when our parents are hurting.
Thanks Wendy.
Hope your race went well today!
Thank you Meranda! It went well!
Thinking of your mom and sending all the healing energy. xo
Thank you Erin.
Sending thoughts to your mom, hope she continues to heal well. How funny that you were at that State Fair, too – two of my friends from my photo-a-day group were there (one had prize-winning mittens, if you saw the knitting tent at all). Love the pic of Ruth with her ears flying and well done for getting so much hard work in around everything else. You’re amazing!
How cool you have a connection to the Minnesota State Fair, I love it!
Kara is 9 and starting to slow down a bit on runs, like Matilda. She’ll get more energetic as it gets colder, but for now I have to stick to short runs with her.
Hope your mom is recovering well!
Good point, maybe she’ll have a bit more spunk when it’s cooler.
Happy 3 month birthday to Ruth! Another awesome week of workouts for you – I never know how you fit it all in!
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom – I’ll be keeping her in my thoughts and sending her tons of positive vibes.
Thank you so much Kim!
I’m so sorry about your mom. Hopefully she’s on the mend. My Dad is now in the hospital, actually, don’t know what’s going on yet (he was fine when we left them yesterday afternoon!).
I need some of whatever you’re having. How you do all that, I have no idea. Youth, I guess, LOL!
Ruth is the cutest. Seriously. 10.5 is kind of old for running, but I hope you guys have more miles together.
Thank you for the kind words Judy.
I hope your Mom is healing up. Positive thoughts for you and the family! Great job on all of the miles too. I’m sure it helped with your Mom being in the hospital. What an adorable doggie!!
Thank you Lisa.
Congrats on a great week of running. Perhaps Matilda’s issue is that you are getting too fast for her! That was a great 15 mile progressive long run – it just keeps building. Sending positive thoughts for your mother’s health and recovery.
Thank you so much Eric.
I hope all is well with your mom and that she’s on the mend.
Ruth is just too cute – that face!!
I know, she’s a doll 🙂
I hope your mom is doing well and that you had a great race on Monday. Getting your long run done on Friday sounds great, I’m sure it was a lot as you say but I’d love to try it sometime.
Thanks for reading and commenting Becket!
I am sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she is OK. Hugs to you and your family. Ruth sure likes to pose for pictures. Oh and your 11 miles on Wednesday before work? Awesome!!!
Thank you for the kind words Zenaida.
All the positive thoughts and prayers to your mom!
Thank you Kim!
First of all, I hope everything is ok with your mom. That sounds very scary but glad you have family there to help! Second, you had a great week of running and I love that 15 miler breakdown session!! It’s a great way to keep your head in the game over all those miles 🙂 Here’s to another great week!
Yes, the 15 miler flew up by breaking it up!
I hope your mom is doing much better!
I love Ruth’s chalk board birthday poster. 😀
Thank you Debbie.
I’m just catching up on posts, but wanted to say I hope all is ok with your mum now. It would have been such a worry to have her in hospital.
