Jess in Minneapolis
Here we are entering the last big week of training for the Berlin marathon before the taper. Poor Dustin is struggling with athletic pubalgia, so keep your fingers crossed that he can still run the race. I told him he could always just run with me! We’ve never run a marathon actually together (though we’ve traveled to plenty marathons together), and I think it would be a lot of fun. But I’m not sure he’s ready to give up on the flat and fast PR potential of the Berlin course quite yet. He’s hoping ice, physical therapy, and a little rest will make it feel better.
With that said, here’s a weekly recap of what’s happening for me in Fitness, Fashion, and Fitness Fashion this week!
Fitness:
Monday: 5.5 easy (extremely hot) miles after work
Tuesday: 10 miles in the AM, with 4 miles at goal marathon pace
Wednesday: 6.5 easy miles in the AM
Thursday: Kettlebell class at Balance Fitness
Friday: 4.5 easy miles in the AM
Saturday: 20 mile long run. This long run felt much better than the week before. I think the difference was primarily the temperature. It was still hot and humid, but not quite as bad as the week before. And maybe carbo-loading per this recipe helped?
Sunday: Rest- well, walked around the state fair all day. (Read about it here)
Total: about 47 miles, 1 strength day, 1 full rest day. Not too bad!
Saturday night, we headed to NE Minneapolis to see Susie’s husband play an acoustic guitar show at Honey. I’ve known Susie and Sam now for over three years, but this was the first time I had been able to make it to one of his shows, and he was amazing! Seriously, very talented.

Fashion:
This guy was all about the fashion at the Sam’s show at Honey, in a nice looking Billy Reid polo. Looking good, Mr. Mason!
It was a fun time at Honey…though it was a reminder to me that 20 miles in the heat can take a lot out of a person. Oh, and a reminder that I’m not 22 anymore. This old lady just can’t hang all night anymore!
Nonetheless, we had a great time and really enjoyed the show. I definitely suggest that you go listen to Sam’s music, and stay tuned for his CD release this winter!

Fitness Fashion? Not a lot of news this week in Fitness Fashion, though I did finally receive my Oiselle Diamond Roga shorts.
I have a similar pair already in black that I bought at Marathon Sports, but I hadn’t found these anywhere else since then. I had to go with the online route, and originally ordered a size small. Unfortunately, those had to be returned, as they were just too booty-tight for me. The medium seems much better!
The thick waistband and large zipped pocket in the back remind me a lot of the lululemon Groovy Shorts that I love so much, and they’re similarly priced ($54). Hopefully I love them just as much as the lulu ones!
What’s new with you this week in Fitness, Fashion, and Fitness Fashion?
Have you seen any good live music lately?
