Only 10 weeks until my 41st marathon, the Vienna marathon! Here’s my recap of training (and life in London):
Monday: Rest day from running. I had a big mileage week the week before and was due for a rest day. After work, I did do day 3 of Iron Strength, which was glutes focused + core on Peloton
Tuesday: Ready to run again; I did 8 miles with a workout: warm-up, 10 min tempo, 5 min jog, then 5x(3 mins hard with 90 sec jog recovery).
The week started a little frosty (0C or 32 F) but by the end of the week, it was 50F/10C.
After work, I joined a few colleagues to see a musical called “& Juliet.” It’s a reimagined take on the Romeo & Juliet story, where Juliet doesn’t kill herself but rather moves on and finds her confidence without a man- all set to pop hits from the 2000’s! It was SO fun, especially for someone who grew up with that music. I recommend seeing it, as its on its way to NYC now and then probably a US tour. One of the colleagues that I went with had seen it FIVE times she loved it so much.
Wednesday: The musical wasn’t done until after 10 pm and then I had to get the tube back to Hampstead- a later night for this early bird! It was tough getting out of bed early, but I managed 5 easy miles before work. Really wanted to snooze, as I rarely stay up that late during the week!
My 5 mile route is a hilly one- it includes Primrose Hill and Haverstock Hill.
It’s funny how pictures of hills never look that steep, do they?
Thursday: wfh day! I waited until the sun came up (worked for a bit beforehand instead) and then did my longer workout: warm-up, then 3×12 min at faster than goal marathon pace with 3 min jog in between, cool-down for 10 miles total. The temperature was about 2 degrees Celcius around just below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, which was great for running in my opinion!
After work, I completed day 4 of Iron Strength, which was a full body workout.
Friday: Another wfh day, 7 easy miles before work, then some core + barre + stretching on Peloton
Saturday: Long run day! Dustin decided to join me for the full 18 mile long run.
We ran down the canal to Victoria Park and back. Overall I felt pretty good, though ready to be done by the end!
I bought a pair of the Tracksmith Eliot Runners, though I think they’ll just be a casual sneaker vs. a running shoe. I like them, but not sure about running in them…
So clean now, but I am doubtful I can keep them this white living in London!
Saturday night, we went to a short little concert at the Southwark Cathedral, where a string quartet played Taylor Swift songs in candlelight. It was lovely!
We went to a pub beforehand, but didn’t have a ton of time so I went with this little 1/2 pint mini-beer. The perfect size!
Sunday: I’m about to head out for a run with Dustin and Ruth, we’re planning for 7 miles. Then we have a birthday brunch/lunch for my college roommate Carolyn (I mean “uni” friend, if you’re British 🙂 )
Summary: 55 miles of running, 2 Iron Strength sessions, core on Peloton
In dog news, last Sunday, we took the pups to Buckingham Palace and then a walk through Green and St. James parks. They got a lot of attention!
They also wanted to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s day!
Well, that’s a wrap! I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner; check out their blogs to connect with other fitness bloggers for workout ideas and inspiration!

Thanks for the recommendation. I was wondering how that show was.
Congrats on another great running week.
Love the last pic of the pups.
It was a light-hearted fun musical. I really enjoyed it.
What a fun week! That musical sounds great. I wonder if it will debut in NYC or Chicago? I’m so glad you’re having fun in London. Great week of training too!
I’m sure it will come to Chicago! Just a fun party of a show 🙂
Nice mileage week! And also so much fun activities- the Taylor Swift covers and Juliet both sound lively. I’d definitely enjoy that type of musical.
Definitely! Taylor’s songs worked really well with a string quartet. Both were fun evenings!
That musical sounds like a blast! Hope it comes to DC as well. Hills never look as hilly in photos do they?! But they sure feel hilly. Nice week of training for you!
Thanks Deborah!
Awe, first off your doggies are adorable. Juliet sounds like a fun show to watch. I’m not so sure about sitting through too much Taylor Swift though. She has some songs I like. Keep it up. You are definitely having great training. Have a great week!
Haha, I get it, Taylor isn’t for everyone! The vibe in the cathedral with the candles was neat, even if you weren’t a huge fan. They do other cover sets (Coldplay was mentioned, I can’t remember the others!)
Nice week of training! That musical really sounds fun 🙂 I totally agree with you about hills in pics… the pics don’t go them justice.
Haha, right? I mean, Primrose Hill is a legit hill and it looks flat in the picture, ha!
Sounds like a great week! That show sounds like a lot of fun! Your pups are so cute!
Thanks Coco! They were more tolerant of the headbands than I expected 🙂 All for treats of course.
How great to have Dustin join you for the entire 18-miler! If the Vienna Marathon course is hilly, it sounds like you’ll be prepared based on your hilly training runs.
Awww, happy Valentine’s Day to Matilda and Ruth!
I don’t expect him to run my pace all the time, but it really is nice when he does occasionally. Its a fun way to explore together! If only I was just a bit faster 🙂
Look at the girls, all dressed up! <3 <3 <3
Amazing running, as usual. It’s funny that the hill pictures are never really super impressive. We know different.
That concert sounds incredible. So does that musical.
Yes! Both shows were so lovely- clearly I love my pop music, hah!
Aww, your pups are so cute! I’ll keep an eye out for that musical. It sounds good!
Great workouts this week. It’s so nice to be able to get a hard workout done on a WFH day. I do like taking advantage of that extra time I have on WFH days too.
Totally! That extra time in the morning makes a huge difference when wfh. It’s a treat!
Aw, Ruth and Matilda…. happy Valentine’s Day, girls! Sounds like a GREAT week, with lots of good running and fun activities. Oh and I know what you mean- hills NEVER look steep in pictures! What’s up with that?
I tell ya, Primrose Hill is legit steep, but it looks flat in that picture! 🙂
aww Valenpups.
& Juliet is here too but I haven’t seen it. Thanks for the recommendation. And I feel you on staying out late. It’s hard.
If you like 90’s/2000s pop, you’ll like the show. Just a fun evening overall, nothing too deep!
It looks so cold there! I can’t remember we had such a cold start of the week but maybe we did. An eventful week for you as it seems, both with running and entertainment. I love that idea of a Romeo & Juliet story! I’ve stopped buying white shoes because I know they won’t stay white for long. I have a pair of very nice Adidas street shoes and they’ve stayed white because I only use them for going out in town in the spring and summer. It’s enough work keeping my grey runners to look decent. Especially walking and… Read more »
I’m with you- I can’t keep any shoes clean in London, too much mud! Not as much cow manure though, ha!
It was chilly Mon/Tues and then warmed up. Hopefully its warm from now on!
I’m LOL at the pups with the Valentines head gear — they look unsure about that. I don’t think Bandit would have that on for very long.
Great week of WOs with lots of fun stuff! Both of your events sound like so much fun, especially the play. I think you’re all living your best life in London!
There were a lot of treats involved in that picture 🙂 They usually won’t keep anything on their heads, this may have been a first!
I’m always amazed at just how much you pack into one week!
Right back at you Kim! 🙂
Sounds like a really good show! I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. Oh how cute your pups are in front of the palace! Great week of training for you!
Thanks Marcia!
Love the Valentines pups!
Ooh, ooh, I should be down in London for the marathon weekend, as I want to take my best friend parkrun volunteering on the Saturday. So I’ll be in North London 21-23 April, will you be around?
Hi Liz! April 23rd is the Vienna marathon, so I will not be in London then. Enjoy your volunteering and cheering!
Dammit! We will meet one day!
