Ran the Hackney Half last Sunday and it was a blast! I quickly went online afterwards & registered for next year’s race 🤣 even though I don’t know how it will fit into marathon plans or other travel plans 🤷‍♀️…I ran it 4 weeks after Vienna for fun and fun it definitely was! 🎉🏃‍♀️🇬🇧 I actually don’t remember the last half I ran and this one was HUGE- 24,000 runners! But it didn’t feel too congested and was well supported- so many enthusiastic spectators! #hackneyhalfmarathon #hackneyhalf @hackneymoves #halfmarathon #londonrunner #instarunner #longrun

Vienna City Marathon 2023, marathon #41! It was a challenging one for me, the heat/sun (though not as sunburned as Boston 2022!), tummy troubles, painful side stitches (which can be from over OR under hydrating?) . But I’m proud of myself for sticking with it for the full 42km. The support was great, pretty flat course, LOVED that they played Blue Danube Waltz at the start line 🎼

Love for the marathon still strong 🏅🇦🇹❤️ Next up, Marathon du Médoc (def just for fun) and then Dublin!

Giving Paris another spot on the grid. 🇫🇷 My sister found this amazing guide for the Louvre who kept it really engaging, even for a 12 and 14 year old (If you’ve been, you know how overwhelming it can be.) After 4 days playing tour guide in London, we took the Eurostar to Paris for the next 3 nights. Though our “skip the line” tour to the top of the Eiffel Tower was cancelled due to the strikes, we still saw a lot on a Seine river cruise & walk the first evening, and then Versailles and Montmartre the next day. I’ve been to Paris a few times before but it was fun to experience it again with my family!

Day 3 in London: British Museum (so great but so crowded), a walk through Covent Garden, lunch in Neal’s Yard, a choral concert at St. Martin in the Fields, dinner in east London & a Jack the Ripper tour.

Day 4: Windsor Castle, St. Paul’s Cathedral (the view from the top of the 528 stairs is better than the London Eye), a stop at one of the oldest pubs in London, plus a final dinner in Hampstead.

That was FIVE years ago today. I went out for a 20 mile run, as I was preparing for the Antarctica marathon which would have been 3 weeks later. About 8 miles in, I slipped (hard) while turning on the ice and twisted my leg in an unnatural way…leaving me with a broken tibia & fibula. And a cancelled trip to Antarctica.

Fortunately, I was able redo that trip & marathon in 2019 (& take countless penguin 🐧 pics!) and have run 11 marathons since that traumatic day. I am so grateful to be healthy & have running in my life. When I look back at these pictures, I know how hard this period was, and I have to remind myself to never take it for granted.

As corny as it is, I GET to run. ❤️💙🏃‍♀️ I do not ever want to lose it again.
