It’s about the end of Movember! Since 2004, November is that time of year when all the men start to look a little creepier, by growing out ‘staches for a good cause. But November is now over, and this year, to raise more money for prostate cancer awareness, a group of CBRC members participated in the Moustache Run 5k

To ensure we got in a solid 10 miles on this unseasonably warm Saturday, we met around 7:15 and ran to the start line. An impressive group of us formed our own rogue running club for the morning.

The 5k started at St. Anthony Main, where we picked up our stocking cap and drink ticket for the post-race party.

Runners could wait in the warmth of Aster Cafe. We saw lots of great moustaches while waiting….

The ladies may not have been able to grow our own ‘staches, so brought some stick-on ones:

At the finish line, volunteers were handing out razors for the ladies to shave off their men’s staches.

At the finish, there was coconut water and regular water.

There were also photographers along the course.

The post-race drink of choice was Southern Comfort.

Not exactly my personal fav, but SoCo is “manly” I suppose, and suitable for a Moustache Run.

Though I don’t run all that many 5k’s, I thought this one was a pretty good one. I’ll give it a 6/10. It wasn’t chip-timed (like the Torchlight Run was), and the start line was a little chaotic/slow to get going, but I guess that’s pretty common for a fun-run 5k. The amenities (stocking cap and post-race drink) were pretty solid, and the course was also fun, weaving through some trails by the river. And for its first year, there was a very strong showing, with nearly 1500 runners.

I can’t guarantee that we’ll be back next year, but I do think I’d recommend this 5k to friends, especially if you enjoy admiring svelte moustached men!
