By JessieSo, my full week of no running after the St. George marathon is over. The hubby and I went for an easy 4 mile jog with Ms. Matilda (the doggy), and felt pretty good. My legs were a little heavy and sore, but nothing too bad. Eight weeks now until the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on December 3rd! A savvy run club friend found a decent training plan for me on Runners Continue Reading
To iPod or Not to iPod, that is a Fitting Debate
By: LLIn running, there are two schools of thought when it comes to music: (1) the purists who believe running is a time of peace and solitude - a time to get away from all the noise of life and collect one's thoughts in silence, and (2) the iPoders, who couldn't imagine running without the distraction and assistance of good tunes. It is a heated debate - maybe more heated than the healthcare Continue Reading
Race Review: St. George Marathon
I realize that I didn't give a complete race review of the St. George marathon, so here goes: Entry is by lottery only, unless you are a local. My husband and I were able to register for the lottery as a couple, meaning either both of us got in, or neither of us got in. We found out in May that we were in! We booked our hotel stay at the Inn at Entrada. It's smart to book your room right away, as Continue Reading
Fits on the Road: Hiking in Zion National Park
After the St. George marathon (which was amazing, by the way) my husband and I spent the following day hiking in Zion National Park. Hiking the day after 26.2 was pretty silly. Our quads were extremely sore (all that up-and-downhill in the race is tough on the legs), so we weren't quite as limber as normal. Hiking is definitely a workout for the legs and butt, and a great opportunity for you to Continue Reading
Fit Fanatic: St. George Marathon
By: Cool JSome may say that I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to running. For a lot of people, a marathon is something you only do once. It's something that you check of your list of "things to do before I die", and that's the end of it. For me, I was hooked at the first finish line, and I keep coming back for more. Tomorrow will be my 10th attempt at 26.2 miles, and each time the Continue Reading
Fit #8: St. George Marathon
By JessieThis Saturday, my husband and I are running the St. George, Utah marathon. We are slowly trying to run a full marathon in every state. This is my 10th marathon, but only my 8th state:1. Minnesota- (Twin Cities Marathon 2005, Twin Cities Marathon 2008)2. Wisconsin- (Lakefront Milwaukee Marathon, 2010)3. Missouri- (Go! St. Louis Marathon 2011)4. Michigan- (Grand Rapids Marathon Continue Reading
Race Reviews: Women Run the Cities!
By JessieThis past weekend, I ran the "Women Run the Cities" 10 mile. It's only a week before my marathon in St. George, Utah, but the schedule called for ten miles, so why not get a cool medal for doing it? I was careful not to push myself, since I really shouldn't be racing a week before the marathon. The race was along the river road. The weather was PERFECT- a clear, cool, no wind day. I Continue Reading
