Fit Fanatic: Renegade Long Run

September 1, 2012 By Jessie Benson 3 Comments

By Cool JOur training schedule called for 18-20 miles today. After last week's solo & challenging 19 miler, and with next week's 20 mile race on the horizon (The Ready to Rock 20 Miler in White Bear Lake), I decided that 18 miles was plenty for me this week.Luckily, my friend Meggan agreed. She and her boyfriend Andy needed to hit the road for the cabin today, so she suggested meeting at 6 am Continue Reading

Fit Fanatic: How to Survive 20+ Miles on Your Own.

November 20, 2011 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By: Cool JBased on my condensed 9 week training for the Memphis marathon, I was scheduled for 20+ miles today.  And I had to do it alone (pretty much- I did have company for the first 4 miles). Need to know how to survive 20+ miles on your own? Here's what you need...1) A route. My run club coach mapped out a nice 20.5 mile loop around the city. It was so nice of him to do this, and Continue Reading

Fit Fanatic: Mantras for Motivation!

November 10, 2011 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By JessieLast night at run club, we did a hill workout. It was dark and chilly...and definitely not easy! The warm-up route was about 2.25 miles, and then each hill was about 0.8 miles round trip. Dustin and I both did 5 repeats, and then the 2.25 cool down home, for a total run of around 8.5 miles. There was a good turnout of runners for a “random” hill workout, so it was nice to have the support Continue Reading

Fitting Remarks: Motivational Signs

November 9, 2011 By Jessie Benson 3 Comments

By JessiePart of the magic of the marathon is the support of the fans. Dustin and I travel for a lot for marathons, so we don't always have familiar faces in the crowd. But even strangers can give you that extra boost along the course. And I especially enjoy the fun signs! While running, I am always on the look out for funny signs. Humor can take me much farther than Gu or Gatorade! Continue Reading

Fit Fanatic: Running with man’s best friend

November 2, 2011 By Jessie Benson 1 Comment

By: Cool JEven before we were married, my husband and I both knew we wanted to get a dog. We did our research on different breeds, and decided that the Hungarian Vizsla was the "Right Fit" for us. They are very smart and easy to train. They also do not shed much. They are clean, low-maintenance pets in terms of grooming. But one of the biggest reasons we wanted a Vizsla...(other than their good Continue Reading

Thank you for stopping by!

This is my blog about finding The Right "Fit." I'm an avid runner, marathon enthusiast, and fitness experimentalist who uses my little space of the internet to share my passion for and experiences with running and fitness (...and a little about fashion.)

I write mostly about running and my quest to run a marathon in every state and every continent. But you'll also find some information about different fitness classes in the Twin Cities and more.

Ruth and Matilda have been dying to share some exc Ruth and Matilda have been dying to share some exciting news- we are moving to London!

- Dustin was offered a really great opportunity through the same company to take on a new role in London.
- My company approved a transfer for me to our London office- same job for me (fun new office location!)
- I’ll be localized, Dustin will be an expat.
- The move has been in the works for awhile, but UK immigration was slow with visa processing due to Covid, staffing shortages, the Ukrainian war refugee crisis, etc. but we now have our visas so things are moving quickly- tentative move date is July 7!
- Though the delay was frustrating at first, I think it was meant to be, as it allowed me to be in the US for my mom’s last days and then her funeral. 😕
- We will be renting a flat in the city of London. Visitors welcome!
- Ruth & Matilda are coming with. We wouldn’t go if they couldn’t join! Happy to share details on how they are getting there, but Dustin’s firm set up us with an amazing agency that handles it all, @worldcarepet
- Some good friends are hosting a goodbye party/open house on June 25th. Text me for details, I’d love to see you before we leave. All are invited! 🇬🇧

Losing a parent is not easy and I question if it w Losing a parent is not easy and I question if it will ever even feel…a little less hard. But I am so glad that I have these wonderful people to miss her with…♥️
As I process losing my mom this past weekend, ther As I process losing my mom this past weekend, there are a lot of tears (and even some hyperventilating- didn’t know that was a thing 🫤) but these throwback photos of her in dresses she sewed herself (including her wedding dress!) bring me so much joy. I may not have inherited her skills but I hope I inherited some of her amazing style (& love of bright colors!) 😊
My sister Erin and I (+ our spouses) spent the wee My sister Erin and I (+ our spouses) spent the weekend in Memphis for my cousin Elaine’s wedding; the circumstances weren’t great as to why it was only us as my mom has been in the hospital with pneumonia (+ other challenges) for the past 14 days, so the rest of my family couldn’t make it (it’s my mom’s sister’s daughter who got married & I know she would have really wanted to be there.) Yet my dad encouraged us to attend to represent the family so we made the most of it; here are a handful of highlights to share. 💕. #memphis #wedding #emergebuildingwedding #Tennessee
Just breaking my social media hiatus to announce m Just breaking my social media hiatus to announce my social media hiatus 🤣 Makes total sense, right? Did anyone even notice? 🦗 But seriously I don’t want anyone to think I’m ignoring them, just challenging myself to break the addiction to scrolling for a bit, i.e. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, & Strava. Still blogging a little (wrote a Boston recap, link in profile) but please text or email me with the latest and greatest. Let’s see how long I last 🫣

I finished marathon #39. It was a rough day for me I finished marathon #39. It was a rough day for me, one of my slowest in a long time and I don’t know why but I do know I’m taking a break until fall (this was my 5th in 10 months.) I know I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to run this race but I’m struggling to find the positives. I guess the DPM (dogs per mile) was very high 🙂

Fingers crossed🤞 that I avoid all the germs🦠 that seem to be going around these days…
