Fits Do Race (Pre)views: Upcoming Thanksgiving Races in the Minneapolis Area.

October 19, 2013 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By Cool J in MinneapolisThe past five years, my family has organized their own 5k. You can check those out HERE and HERE. We "organized" this 5k just for the family. It was an opportunity for us to share a fun run with the whole family, and it was a healthy event where everyone could join. We tried to make it authentic with shirts, medals, a post-race party like no other, and Continue Reading

Fits Do Race Reviews: 5th Annual Family Turkey Trot

November 25, 2012 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By Cool JFive years of a healthy family tradition continued this past Thursday morning, as nearly everyone in my immediate family arrived for the 5th annual running of the family Turkey Trot.  Eight runners and one dog ran the new and improved 5k (which was actually a 4 miler) on a (very) warm Thanksgiving morning in Brookfield, Wisconsin.  There were also two babies, Continue Reading

Fits Do Race (P)Reviews: Wedel Turkey Trot

November 15, 2012 By Jessie Benson Leave a Comment

By: LLLet me take you back for a moment - back five years ago to a time when gas was still $3.00/gallon and these two fitting sisters were still "way dull." It was a cold, icy Thanksgiving morning as six brave souls headed out for the first Wedel Turkey Trot 5k.The shirts were cotton long sleeves featuring a design made by CJ (far right). There were not any race bibs and the entire course was Continue Reading

By JessThose of you who know me, know that I'm a planner. I like to have everything sorted out on an agenda.  And this includes planning out my future runs as well! Here's what I have on the calendar for the remainder of 2012 and 2013. I'm sure plans could change, and maybe additional races will be added, but these are the ones I have marked on my planner.November:5th Annual Family Turkey Continue Reading

Race Recap: TGiving Turkey Trot

December 2, 2011 By Jessie Benson 1 Comment

By: LLThe 4th Annual TGiving Turkey Trot was a success, and as a follow up to this post, I wanted to do a race review of the 2011 race. The weather was perfect for the race - 40s, overcast, with little to no wind (very warm for the Midwest). We had a total of 15 participants (3 of which were walkers and 1 cycler). The course was well marked and the Race Marshall was present throughout the Continue Reading

Fits Do Race Reviews: T-Giving Turkey Trot

November 18, 2011 By Jessie Benson 1 Comment

By: LLEven though not everyone in our family is addicted to enjoys running as much as Cool J and I do, each year our family hosts its own Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day. It all started four years ago when my parents' town had their road race the weekend before the holiday. That did not deter us. Instead, we mapped out a route, set up signs, set up "water stations," and held our inaugural Continue Reading

Thank you for stopping by!

This is my blog about finding The Right "Fit." I'm an avid runner, marathon enthusiast, and fitness experimentalist who uses my little space of the internet to share my passion for and experiences with running and fitness (...and a little about fashion.)

I write mostly about running and my quest to run a marathon in every state and every continent. But you'll also find some information about different fitness classes in the Twin Cities and more.

My 42nd full marathon was a unique one- the Marath My 42nd full marathon was a unique one- the Marathon du Médoc, often referred to as “le marathon le plus long du Monde” or “the longest marathon in the world” as it passes by 23 châteaux that hand out wine to the runners. @dustinrbenson tasted every wine, I did maybe 1/2 dozen. Everyone also runs in “fancy dress” or costume with this year’s theme as “Gastronomy.” (Bonus, my sister @emariecantu & her husband participated too so we’ve been able to spend the past 5 days exploring the Bordeaux region with them, making some incredible memories 💙)

It lasted through all of Matilda’s running career (10 years!) and all of Ruth’s so far, including her running adventures around England- but sadly this morning it snapped (3rd pic) beyond repair 😑 and now to figure out how to source a replacement in London…. 🤔

I quickly went online afterwards & registered for next year’s race 🤣 even though I don’t know how it will fit into marathon plans or other travel plans 🤷‍♀️…I ran it 4 weeks after Vienna for fun and fun it definitely was! 🎉🏃‍♀️🇬🇧 I actually don’t remember the last half I ran and this one was HUGE- 24,000 runners! But it didn’t feel too congested and was well supported- so many enthusiastic spectators! #hackneyhalfmarathon #hackneyhalf @hackneymoves #halfmarathon #londonrunner #instarunner #longrun

Vienna City Marathon 2023, marathon #41! It was a Vienna City Marathon 2023, marathon #41! It was a challenging one for me, the heat/sun (though not as sunburned as Boston 2022!), tummy troubles, painful side stitches (which can be from over OR under hydrating?) . But I’m proud of myself for sticking with it for the full 42km. The support was great, pretty flat course, LOVED that they played Blue Danube Waltz at the start line 🎼

Love for the marathon still strong 🏅🇦🇹❤️ Next up, Marathon du Médoc (def just for fun) and then Dublin!
