Another week of training for the Paris marathon complete.
Still struggling with the loss of Matilda; if you missed my tribute to my best good girl, here it is.
Ruth is adjusting to life as an only child. We all miss Matilda.
Here’s how this past week went in training.
Monday: Easy run with friends, with some strides at the end. 8 miles.
There were some crisp mornings this week (like the one from the header photo in the Heath, above and the below pic from Kenwood House) but by midweek, it was warm enough for shorts again.
Reformer pilates at a new studio in Kentish Town called “The Island” after work.
Tuesday: Track Tuesday! Warm-up, 6x800m with a 400m jog in between, cooldown for 7 miles total. There were 5 other runners on the track, running in the moonlight. We were rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise!
Another reformer pilates class at the Island after work. My friend Tina was trying out pilates for the first time, so we took a beginners class together. Its nice to sometimes get a refresh on the basics with a focus on form.
Wednesday: Run commute + office run, 7.6 miles. Long day at the office, so didn’t get home until after 9 pm.
Thursday: Decided to run commute solo, 4 miles. Hadn’t planned ahead so my backpack was quite heavy with clothes and more.
45 minute strength class at Psycle after work- it was hard! I am feeling it afterwards since it was more heavy lifting than I’m used to.
Friday: Lunch run solo, 6.5 miles. What a treat to sneak out over lunch.
That evening, Dustin and I went to a “gig” near Borough Market for a band called the Barr Brothers; he went to high school with them at Tabor Academy in Boston. Interesting show- not my favorite…
Saturday: 4 mile shake-out run with Dustin and Ruth followed by some strides.
Sunday: I raced the Fred Hughes 10 mile race in St. Albans (a “suburb’ of London). I finished in 1:18 or a 7:49 min/mile average and was pleased with that effort. I felt in control even though it was quite a hilly course. With warmup and cooldown, I had about 12 miles on the day.
Summary: Just under 50 miles of running, 2 pilates classes and one other strength session
I’m off to NYC on Monday for work for the week (just in time for the inauguration, hadn’t really thought about that.) It’s jam packed with meetings and work dinners, but I really hope to still get some early morning miles in. I’m going to try my best but also give myself some grace if it just doesn’t happen.
That’s a wrap! I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner; check out their blogs to connect with other fitness bloggers for workout ideas and inspiration!
I can’t believe we just missed each other. Hope you do get in some runs in in CP. It’s supposed to be very cold.
I want to try Pilates too.
I hope to be out there running around 6 am, but have to be ready and in the office by 8-8:30.
I’m sure you’ll be missing Matilida hard for a while (hugs)
I almost had a trip to NYC this week, but it got moved. Have you run there before? Are you staying near-ish to Central Park? I always feel safe running on the main loop before dawn — with a headlamp.
Congrats on the great 10 miler!
I have run in NYC quite a few times (most recently last September for work) but it was lighter then, I haven’t been there for work when its cold and dark. Hoping its not slippery as well! I generally hav felt safe though since there’s so many other runners and police.
All of the inaugural stuff is in DC you should be fine. Have fun in NY hope you have time to get some fun runs in there
Cari is the one who told me that there is stuff around the Trump Tower in Midtown (close to my office and hotel) and that phones won’t work, but I mentioned it to my colleagues and they weren’t sure about it. I’m more concerned about the cold, I have lost my Minnesota toughness!
I just now read your post about Matilda. I knew I was going to cry while reading it and needed to be in an appropriate setting! Sounds like you’re doing everything right- lots of running and keeping busy.
Oh you’re going to be in NYC this week- yes, the timing is interesting! At least in NY you might be surrounded by like-minded people? I don’t even know anymore. Anyway I hope your week is a good one. Hugs to you, Dustin and Ruth <3
Glad you did so well at the race! Speedy finish time. I do love a 10 miler. Enjoy your time in NYC. I’m kind of dreading tomorrow. I can’t believe it’s happening.
Give Ruth (and yourself) a big hug from me.
I am so so sorry about Matilda. Sending you hugs- thanking of you!!
congrats on the race and enjoy your time in NY!
Sending continued hugs to all of you as you miss your dear Matilda. Nice job on that 10-miler!
Enjoy your trip to NYC and be sure to pack warm clothes. It’s going to be cold here on the east coast the first part of the week.
Big hugs to all of you. Losing a doggo is so hard.
Congrats on a strong 10 mile race! You remind me how much I loathe 800 repeats. It’s always very satisfying when they’re done though. Enjoy NYC!
I hope your trip to NYC goes well. And hopefully you will get those runs in! I ran a 10 mile race this past weekend too (but a bit slower haha). Congrats on your race!
